China-EU Business Summit to be held in Beijing in Sept.

The 2005 China-European Union (EU) Business Summit is scheduled to be held in Beijing in September 2005, sources with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), one host of the summit, said Tuesday.

This year is the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-EU diplomatic relations. The summit, to be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce, the CCPIT and relevant EU organizations, will invite leaders of the Chinese government, EU Commission and Britain, which has taken over the EU rotating presidency, according to CCPIT sources.

About 500 Chinese and European business representatives will also attend the summit, and make further discussions on finance innovation and service, corporate governance and social responsibility, lift-up of international competitiveness and protection of intellectual property right, CCPIT said.

Chief executives from some European multinational corporations, including British Petroleum, Siemens, Airbus, and Volkswagen will attend the summit.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attended the last China-EU Business Summit, which was held in December 2004 in the Hague, Netherlands.
