Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets surge on July 26
The Shanghai SE Composite Index opened at 1,046.53 points, up 1.15 points from the previous day. Shenzhen Component Stock Index opened at 2,757.37 points, down 1.30 points. The Shanghai SE Composite Index, which reached the highest at 1,078.06 points and the lowest at 1,046.54 points, closed at 1,072.81 points, up 27.41 points or 2.62 percent. Combined turnover of the two stock markets stood at 18.1 billion yuan, doubling the daily average recently. Many of the stocks saw a rise of over 5 percent.

The fifth anniversary of Lhasa special education school
Lhasa special education school held its fifth anniversary celebration on July 26. It was founded with a government investment of 4.5 million yuan in 2000. At the beginning, it has only three students. After five years' development, the Tibet's only comprehensive special education school has had eight classes for the deaf, one for the vision-impaired, 120 handicapped students and 18 professional teachers. The school has offered several subjects like speech training, Tibetan language, physical education and art, etc. The handicapped students of the Tibetan, Hui and Han Nationalities, etc., from Tibet get the same education opportunities here with the normal children.

The Afghans staged the protest against US forces outside the main US base in Afghanistan July 26 over the arrest of eight Afghan villagers by US troops. It was the first large-scale anti-US demonstration at a US military base in Afghanistan.

Workers and riot police clash in India
Holding batons, the policemen move out to disperse the crowds in Gurgaon, an industrial center near New Delhi, capital of India July 26, 2005. Around 1,000 workers from a Honda plant in northern India city of Gurgaon clashed with riot police in the past two days. The police used high pressure water gun, rubber bullets, and tear gas to disperse the crowds, leaving nearly 700 workers injured, according to the local media.
