According to some news agencies on July 26, In-Star, a leading provider of actionable research, assessments and market forecasts of semiconductors and advanced communications equipment and services in the US, held that the Longxin II chip China is now producing is basically modeled on MIPS chips recently made by MIPS Technologies, Inc. in the US. It is said that 95 percent of the structure of Longixin chip is similar with that of MIPS chip, which, consequently, could be regarded as a kind of mutation of the structure of MIPS chip, but had not been authorized by MIPS Technologies, Inc. Therefore, Longxin chip could possibly face legal dispute.
However, relevant personnel with Institute of Computing Technology under Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), noted that they have conducted special research on the issue of intellectual property rights at the outset when Longxin chip project was initiated. In their words, the chip was put into research and development on the precondition that it does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any companies.
