China crystal festival to be staged in E. China county

The Eighth China Crystal Festival is scheduled to be staged in Donghai County of east China's Jiangsu province on Sept. 28 this year, said the organizing committee of the festival.

Donghai is very rich in mineral resources, which covers 70 percent of the country's crystal and quartz reserves. And the crystal produced in the county contains 99.99 percent of silicon, the source said.

Donghai, dubbed as "capital of Chinese crystal", has witnessed fast development of crystal and silicon industries, which has turned out a production and distributing center in this sector.

Donghai has held a series of crystal festivals in recent years, with annual crystal and silicon trade volumes topping 800 million yuan (96.3 million US dollars).

Moreover, the county produces 12,000 tons of quartze tubes, 500 million glass lamps, 150 million pieces of crystal chips annually by taking crystal as materials.

According to the organizing committee of the festival, a series of activities such as symposiums, expositions, trade fairs, crystal carving contest and children's show of engraving works will be held.

In particular, the finals of the "princess of crystal" contest and the large-scale "love of crystal" theatrical performance will be held during the festival, the source said.
