The Ethiopian police have detained 25 suspects in connection with a series of grenade attacks, which killed five and injured 31 others in the country's eastern Somali state, the Ethiopian news agency reported Wednesday.
The report said the attacks were obviously aimed at disrupting the regional state's elections.
The bombings took place on Sunday in the state capital of Jijiga, some 700 km east of the capital Addis Ababa.
Ethiopians went to poll on May 15 in the country's two separate elections to elect representatives to the House of People's Representatives and eight regional councils. Elections for the 23 constituencies of the Somali state will take place on August 21.
State Police Commissioner Ahmed Ali was quoted as saying that further investigations into the case have been launched.
He said the state's police in collaboration with the federal police are working to bring before court other suspects of grenade attacks in the city.
