The Tarim Oil Company in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is expected to develop a daily gas supply capacity of 33 million cubic meters by the end of this year, said sources with the company.

The Tarim Oil Company, a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), is one of the main gas suppliers for the country's massive West-East Gas Transmission Project.

The company, based in the Tarim Basin, has developed a daily gas supply of 11 million cubic meters since July, which is rapidly expanding.

Up to date, the Tarim Basin has cumulatively supplied gas totaling 2.45 billion cu m for the West-East Gas Transmission Project since the project was launched on Sept. 1, 2004, the company said.

Statistics showed that the Tarim Basin has so far verified gas reserves totaling 664 billion cu m, which will ensure gas supply for more than 20 years.

The West-East Gas Transmission Project is 4,000 kilometers long, with designed annual gas transmission capacity forecast at 17 billion cu m, which traverses 9 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities from Tarim in Xinjiang to east China's Shanghai.
