Russian and Chinese officials and experts vowed to step up cooperation in combating possible floods on Heilongjiang River on the the Sino-Russian border.
During a recent meeting held in Blagoveshchensk, the seat of Amur Prefecture of Russia, a delegation of government officials and experts from Heihe, a city in Heilongjiang Province facing Blagoveshchensk, exchanged hydrological and meteorological reference about Heilongjiang River Valley with their Russian counterparts from Blagoveshchensk.
Experts from Heihe City and Blagoveshchensk Prefecture analyzed hydrological data of the border river in this Summer and Autumn, and concluded that it would be unlikely for a major flooding on the border river though the water level of Heilongjiang River might rise in August.
Both sides agreed to share information and take measures to ward off serious damages when there is danger of a major flood on the border river.
Members on the Russian delegation promised to inform in advance the Chinese side about rising of water level in Heilongjiang River, its main tributaries and reservoirs are inside Russian territory.
In addition to informing the other side about necessary measures taken in case of emergencies, both sides also agreed it is necessary to enhance exchange and cooperation in preventing and limiting damages of flooding, as well as academic research in this regard.
