Chinese mainland scraps tax on 15 kinds of Taiwanese fruits
font size

The Chinese mainland has repealed the import taxes on 15 kinds of Taiwanese fruits starting Monday.

The fruits that enjoy free tariff treatment include pineapples, cherimoyas, pawpaws, carambolas, mangos, guavas, wax-apples, pinangs, grapefruits, jujubes, coconuts, loquats, plums, peaches, and persimmons.

Speaking of the procedures that Taiwanese fruits have to go through while exporting to the mainland, an official with the General Administration of Customs (GAC) told Xinhua that importers of Taiwanese fruits must present to the customs authorities certificates of origin for the fruits.

The certificates must be issued by 11 Taiwanese organizations already approved by the GAC, the official added.

Only fruits shipped to mainland ports from Taiwan Island, Penghu Islands, Jinmen Islands and Mazu Island or Taiwanese fruits shipped to mainland ports via Hong Kong, Macao and Jshigahi-Shima of Japan are entitled to the free tariff treatment.

The Chinese mainland's imports of fruits last year came to 618 million US dollars, 2.37 million of which came from Taiwan, accounting for 0.4 percent of mainland's total fruit imports for the year.

The mainland imported Taiwanese fruits worth 1.34 million dollars in the first half of this year, up 42.1 percent from the corresponding period of last year.

The fruits that have been given the zero tariff treatment had been imposed tariffs ranging from 10 to 25 percent.
