China is ready to make joint efforts with Vietnam to further promote bilateral ties, Jia Qinglin, head of China's top advisory body, said Tuesday.
Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks in a meeting with Do Duy Thuong, vice chairman of Presidium of Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF).
Jia said China and Vietnam, as two close neighbors, enjoy long-term friendship between the two peoples. China-Vietnam relations achieved quite a great progress in the past few decades and continue to move forward in the new century.
The two sides maintain frequent high-level visits, increasingly deepen the political mutual trust, and make fruitful cooperation in various fields, Jia said.
Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong paid a state visit to China last month. During his stay in Beijing, Luong and Chinese President Hu Jintao reached important consensus on further cementing and promoting bilateral relations. The two sides issued the joint communique, pointing out right direction for the development of the China-Vietnam relations, said Jia.
"Further enhancing China-Vietnam friendship accords with fundamental interests of the two countries, and is conducive to peace and stability of the region and the world at large," he said, noting that China attaches importance to relations with Vietnam, and is willing to work with Vietnam to push forward the China-Vietnam relations.
Jia expressed his appreciation for Vietnam's adherence to the one-China policy and support to China's reunification.
Jia called for the CPPCC and the VFF to further expand exchanges, in a bid to play more active role in increasing understanding between the two peoples and promoting the bilateral ties.
Thuong said the VFF has made sound exchanges and cooperation with the CPPCC. "The VFF is ready to make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to contribute more to economic and social development of each other's country and to further promoting relations between the two countries," he noted.
Wang Zhongyu, CPPCC vice-chairman, also met Thuong on Tuesday.
Thuong and his delegation of the VFF arrived in Beijing Sunday at the invitation of the CPPCC.
