Romanian Lidia Simon, the 2001 world marathon champion, will miss this month's world championships following surgery on her stomach, a Romanian Athletics Federation (FRA) official said on Tuesday.

Simon, who has spent the last eight months training in the United States, was forced to undergo emergency surgery just 10 days before the championships in Helsinki, which start on Saturday.
