Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong has urged local governments to promote harmony of the relations among the country's various ethnic groups in building a harmonious society in China.
During his inspection visit to western China's Qinghai province that ended Monday, Zeng, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said that the establishment of harmonious relations among different ethnic groups is of extreme importance in the process of getting local residents rich and building the province's economy into a powerful one.
All the work should be focused on enhancing the common development and prosperity of different ethnic groups, he said.
Zeng also urged the local governments to mobilize all positive elements to get involved in the province's development process and in the end let all ethnic masses benefit from the fruits of the country's opening-up and reform moves.
It is of overall strategic significance for Qinghai to realize a sound and rapid development and only in this way can the ethnic relations in the province be improved more effectively, he said.
