With the approval of the State Postal Bureau, two million special pre-paid envelopes were put for sale as of Tuesday in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of founding of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The stamp on the envelope features the emblem designed for commemorating the 50th anniversary of founding of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China, with a face value of 80 fen (0.10 US dollar). Each envelope sells at a price of 1.2 yuan (0.15 US dollar), according to a senior official in charge of information and advertising with Xinjiang Uygur autonomous regional postal bureau.
The envelope is of high value for artistic appreciation and collection, said the official.
He added that 20 fen or 0.2 yuan would be deducted from the sale of each envelope and donated to a welfare program for children from poverty-stricken areas of southern Xinjiang.
The 50th anniversary of founding of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region falls on Oct. 1. Apart from the pre-paid envelopes, a range of other activities will also be organized in Beijing and Xinjiang to mark the occasion.
