US sprinter Bershawn Jackson picked up the gold medal of Men's 400m hurdles on Tuesday at the world championships thanks to the falling down of Dominican legendary Felix Sanchez and the bad weather.
Jackson marvelously clocked his personal best of 47.30 seconds while the defending champion Sanchez fell down at around 100 meters from the starting line due to wet track, missing a grand chance to win his third world championship title in a row.
As the world championships entered its fourth day, sudden strong wind and torrential rain hit Helsinki, resulting in a suspension and adjustment of matches.
Braving the wind and rain, the athletes went back on the show at around 20:45 local time and poor conditions on the track turned out to be a "Waterloo" for sprinters like Sanchez, who also won the gold medal at the Athens Olympics last year.
Jackson's good luck also came from the poor performance of his teammate Kerron Clement, who finished with just 48.18 seconds.
Clement defeated Jackson by clocking his season best 47.24 seconds in June to become the US champion.
However, Jackson's another teammate James Carter took the silver medal with personal best of 47.43 seconds, and Japanese dark horse Dai Tamesue grabbed the bronze with seasonal best of 48.10 seconds.
