The Chinese TV channel, CCTV-9, started transmitting in Vanuatu as part of the local VBTC network on Tuesday evening, according to reports from Vanuatu Wednesday.

The chairman of the Vanuatu Broadcasting & Television Corporation, Patrick Crowby, presided the launching ceremony at the Le Lagon hotel of Port-Vila.

The service is financed by the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

CCTV-9, the English international channel of CCTV, provides English-speaking viewers in China and around the world with a wide array of news and current affairs programs 24 hours a day. The channel also offers a variety of feature and entertainment programs with insights into China's politics, economy, history, culture, customs and other social aspects.
