Through 17 months of construction, the country's largest single polypropylene project with annual refining capacity hitting 300,000 tons went into operation in Daqing, an oil giant in northeast China's Helongjiang Province.

According to sources with the Daqing Refining Company, a subsidiary of the Daqing Oilfield, the project, with construction costs totaling 1.23 billion yuan (148 million US dollars),is one of the five projects in revigorating the old industrial bases in the northeast.

The project has introduced the advanced equipments and technologies from Italy and will produce 103 varieties of chemical products for utilization in the sectors of automobile, chemical fiber, household electrical appliances and rolled plastic materials.

Upon completion, the project will reap annual sales income of 2 billion yuan (240 million US dollars) and after-tax profits of 300 million yuan (36 million US dollars).
