A former gymnast who changed to the pole vault. Has set 18 world records, including nine this year.
1999 - Won world youth title.
2000 - Won world junior title.
2002 - Second in European championships.
2003 - Won bronze medal at Paris world championships.
2004 - Won Athens Olympics pole vault title ahead of fellow-Russian and arch-rival Svetlana Feofanova then set world record of 4.91 meters.
2005 - Broke the five meters barrier when she vaulted 5.00 at the London grand prix on July 22.
Won her first world title in Helsinki then broke the world record for the ninth time with 5.01 meters.
