China is going to build a new Ali airport in Shiquanhe, Ali area of Tibet, which is about 4,300 meters above sea level.

Site selection work is underway, and the result will be submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission and other related authorities for examination and approval. Ali area lies in the westernmost part of Tibet, and Shiquanhe, seat of local government, is more than 1,780 kilometers away from Lasa and more than 1,300 kilometers from Xinjiang.

The world highest civil airport is Bangda Airport built in 1995 in Changdu of Tibet, with an elevation of 4,334 meters, which has already been in ten years of safe operation.

It is learnt that Sichuan will also newly build Kangding Airport in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, which is about 4,200 meters above the sea level.
