font size

Hong Kong-Mainland cargo movement accounted for the largest share of Hong Kong's port cargo throughput, with the share growing from 32 percent in 1999 to 37 percent last year, according to statistics released by Hong Kong Census & Statistics Department Friday.

Port cargo traffic between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland recorded an annual growth rate of 8.9 percent between 1999 and last year.

This was followed by port cargo movements between Hong Kong and the United States and Taiwan, which accounted for 9 percent and 7 percent of the total last year.

Among the cargo movements between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, the Pearl River Delta accounted for an increasing share from 72 percent in 1999 to 76 percent last year, which reflected the intensified economic relations between the two places.
