Hong Kong police are well-prepared and have sufficient manpower to handle the security of the Sixth World Trade Organization Ministerial Conference, Hong Kong police official said Saturday.
Speaking on a radio talk show Saturday, Dick Lee, Hong Kong Commissioner of Police, said police were still contacting with the non-governmental organizations that planned to stage petitions during the ministerial meeting about details of their activities.
Police would talk with the shops and residents affected before deciding the final route for petitioners and designated petition areas, he added.
While stressing that police would cooperate with all peaceful petitioners, he said that no violence would be tolerated.
Lee said that Hong Kong, an international city, risked being the target of terrorist attack, but the present risk assessment was medium-low.
He noted that police were still investigating an alleged extortion and blackmail case involving several property developers.
He stressed that it was a serious offense and police were treating the matter as first priority.
The conference is due in December in Hong Kong.
