Sales of 100 major retail firms up 14.4 percent in July

The sales volume of China's 100 major retail enterprises reached 12.46 billion yuan (1.5 billion US dollars) in July, up 14.4 percent from the same period of last year, the Economic Daily quoted figures from China General Chamber of Commerce as saying.

Many department stores extended business hours in Summer to attract customers. As students were on Summer vacation, computers,digital cameras and sport apparels were sold well.

The retail sale of food gained by the 100 large-scale enterprises reached 1.36 billion yuan, an increase of 26.6 percent year on year, with that of drinks up 16.7 percent, according to the China General Chamber of Commerce.
