US condemns bombings in Bangladesh
font size

The United States said on Tuesday that it condemned the bombing attacks in Bangladesh and called for bringing those responsible to justice.

"At the time of these bombings, we put out a statement condemning these acts, these acts of terror," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said at a briefing.

"I know the Bangladeshi government is working very hard to identify the individuals responsible for the attacks, and certainly we stand with them as they search for these individuals and ultimately hold them to account for what they've done," McCormack said.

The spokesman said that the United States and Bangladesh have been working closely on matters of combating terrorism.

About 350 small devices went off simultaneously across Bangladesh on Aug. 18 and two people were killed, more than 100 injured. The Bangladeshi police said that more than 50 people had been arrested in connection with the blasts and they were being questioned.
