People's Daily hails spirit of fighting Japanese aggression

China's leading newspaper, People's Daily, is to publish a commentator's article Sunday, which calls for turning the great spirit of fighting Japanese aggression against China during World War II into actions for national rejuvenation.

The article says to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory ofthe Chinese people's in the war of resistance against Japanese aggression, efforts should be concentrated on building China into a relatively affluent society in an all-round way.

It describes the spirit is the distillation of the patriotic spirit of the Chinese nation and the source of power for the Chinese people to fight against violent repression and humiliationimposed by foreign invaders.

The the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression ended with the first full victory the Chinese had won in their fighting against foreign invasions since the modern times. It has become the major turning point of the Chinese nationfrom decline to rejuvenation.

According to the article, the Communist Party of China always stood in the frontline of the war, was the mainstay leading the whole nation in fighting Japanese invaders, made tremendous sacrifice for national dependence and the people's liberation, andwon the people's trust and support.

Under the Party's leadership, the Chinese people founded the People's Republic of China four years after the war, which createdconditions for the great rejuvenation of the nation, though it is certainly a long process of hard struggle.

"We have overcome many difficulties and hardships, still there is a long way to go; we have obtained great achievements, but the future task is more arduous," says the article.

It calls on the Chinese people to carry forward the great spirit of fighting Japanese aggression to seize opportunities and deal with challenges to boost development in the first 20 years ofthis century, and settle various contradictions in the road of development.

To turn the spirit into actions for national rejuvenation, the article says, it is important to enhance the country's economic strength, unite all forces that can be united, maintain national unity and social stability, safeguard the people's fundamental interests, strengthen Party building and fight against corruption so that the Party can lead the people marching toward the great goal.
