Highway accident leaves nine dead, one injured in Ningxia

Nine people were killed and another seriously injured when a minibus collided head-on with a heavy-duty dump truck on a regional highway in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Local police sources said that the accident happened on the regional highway No. 101 inside Liwang Township, Haiyuan County, around 5 p.m. Saturday. All the casualties were from the minibus.

Nine people, including the minibus driver, were killed on the spot. One passenger was injured and sent to a local hospital. The victims were all folks from Wuwan Village of Zhengqi Township, Haiyuan County.

The accident also caused traffic congestion that last for seven hours on the regional highway.

Driver of the heavy-duty truck has been detained by the local police.

Cause of the accident is under investigation.
