Chinese President Hu Jintao said in Beijing Monday that China has incorporated women's development into the overall national program of economic and social development and vigorously promoted women's cause.
Addressing the opening ceremony of a meeting commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, President Hu said that China has abided by the Beijing Declaration and the Platform for Action, formulated and implemented China's Program for Women's Development in the past ten years.
"China has set up an effective national mechanism for greater gender equality and put in place a favorable situation where society as a whole gives care and support to the women's cause," he said.
He said that China endeavors to ensure that women enjoy equal rights with men in politics, economy, culture and social and family life by promoting women's participation in politics, employment, education and assisting women in need.
As a developing country with 1.3 billion people and a low level of productivity and education, China, he said, should work harder on improving the subsistence, development and protection of the rights and interests of the Chinese women.
