Xu Jialu, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), met in Beijing Monday with Madagascan Defense Minister Behajaina Petera.

Xu said China and Madagascar have conducted effective cooperation in such fields as politics, economy and culture since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1972.

China appreciated Madagascar's support on the Taiwan and human rights issues,saying China is ready to develop friendly cooperation with Madagascar in various fields and invigorate bilateral relations, Xu said.

Behajaina is here at the invitation of Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan.
