Chinese contractor completes Pakistan's oil products pipeline

Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf and petroleum minister attended the ceremony marking completion of an oil products pipeline constructed by the China Petroleum Engineering & Construction (Group) Corporation (CPECC) in Karachi on August 26.

President Musharraf spoke highly of Chinese government's and companies' contribution to the project and presented certificate of honor to Sun Bo, CPECC general manager and project director Liu Xihui.

CPECC signed a US$360 million contract with Pakistan's Pak-Arab Refinery for the Pakistani oil products pipeline in 2002. The pipeline has a length of 817 kilometers and a diameter of 26 inches. Combining its strengths in management, technology and financing with local human resources and construction forces, the Chinese contractor put up a joint venture, which is responsible for executing and managing the project. The project realized successful operation on November 13, 2004 and was put into commercial operation on November 18, creating favorable socio-economic benefits and bringing profits and a win-win situation to both sides.

The success of the project will has a positive influence on Chinese companies' consolidation and expansion in Pakistan's engineering market, and will further promote the economic cooperation between China and Pakistan.
