Sporting defeated Maritimo 2-1 at Madeira on Sunday to lead the Portuguese League with one of the second round matches remaining, local press said Monday.

Brazilian Liedson scored twice for Sporting, while Maritimo found the net through Rincon.

Following the victory, Sporting is among the leaders together with Rio Ave, Gil Vicente, FC Porto and Sporting Braga, all of them with six points from two victories in two matches.

The surprise to this moment in the league has come with the 2-0 victory of Gil Vicente over Benfica at Da Luz Satadium.

The last match of the second round will be Estrela da Amadora versus Boavista.
