Turkey expresses sorrow over stampede in Baghdad
font size

Turkey expressed sorrow on Wednesday over deaths of over 840 people in a Baghdad stampede.

The Foreign Ministry said that Turkey shares sorrow of the Iraqi people and offered condolences to relatives of the victims.

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari and offered his condolences.

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said, during a call to his Iraqi counterpart Hoshiar al-Zebari, that Turkey is ready to provide every form of aid to Iraq if needed.

At least 841 people were killed and 323 others injured Wednesday in a stampede triggered by a fake suicide bomb alarm on a bridge over the Tigris river in Baghdad.
