Chinese Vice Health Minister Wang Longde said here Wednesday that the Chinese government will give more support to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in fighting against HIV/AIDS as they play an "outstanding" role in the campaign.
At the Beijing+10 meeting commemorating the tenth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, he said there are many fields where the government cannot go deep, especially groups like man having sex with man, while NGOs can do a lot.
China will work with the international community to increase support to these NGOs, he said.
At present, Chinese NGOs have actively taken part in HIV/AIDS education, prevention and treatment activities. The All-China Women's Federation has launched an educational campaign designed for educating women on HIV/AIDS knowledge in 51 places around the country.
In Beijing You'an Hospital that known for infectious disease treatment, several NGOs like "Home of Loving Care" and "Mangrove Group" have been set up to care for those living with the virus.
"HIV-infected people need understanding and care more than medical treatment and NGOs set up a bridge between those groups and the society," said Xu Lianzhi, director of the "Home of Loving Care".
