People's Daily publishes an editorial Thursday, to commemorate the 40th founding anniversary of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The editorial recalls the great achievements made by people of different ethnic groups in Tibet over the past four decades and attributes it to the correct leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the implementation of central policies by local Party committees and governments at different levels in this southwest China autonomous region.

It calls for adherence to and improving the system of ethnic regional autonomy, saying it is an inevitable result for Tibet which has taken the socialist road with China's own characteristics and under the leadership of the CPC, as well as a fundamental assurance for people of different ethnic groups in Tibet to master their own life.

The 40 years experiences in Tibet have proven that the ethnic regional autonomy is a system that is in complete conformity with realities in China and Tibet, the editorial says.
