Sri Lankan President meets Chinese State Councilor

Sri Lanka is ready to make concerted efforts with China to boost cooperation in various fields, said Sri Lankan President Bandaranalke Kumaratunga in Beijing Wednesday in a meeting with Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili.

Kumaratunga, starting her four-day state visit from Aug. 30 at the invitation of Chinese President Hu Jintao, said she made in-depth views with Chinese leaders on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

"Sri Lanka is willing to further promote bilateral relations with China," she said, appreciating China for providing assistance and help to Sri Lanka in economic and social progress, especially in disaster relief work after the tsunami in December of last year.

Chen Zhili spoke highly of the achievements made in the development of China-Sri Lanka relations, saying that China is willing to work with Sri Lanka to push forward the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two sides.
