A meeting for commemorating the 60th anniversary of the victory over the War of Resistance Against Japan by overseas Chinese and foreign citizens of Chinese descent in Asia Pacific war zone was held in Hong Kong on Friday.
Over 1,000 representatives from nearly 100 overseas Chinese organizations in Hong Kong and from abroad, children of the senior overseas Chinese soldiers and martyr and representatives from all walks of life in Hong Kong participated in the meeting.
Zhao Yang, vice director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, on behalf of the office, expressed at the meeting the respect and greetings to the overseas Chinese who made great contributions to the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
Zhao said during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in China, a vast number of overseas Chinese and foreign citizens of Chinese decent showed great patriotism and over 10 million of them participated in the fighting against the Japanese aggression and many of them devoted their lives to the victory of the war.
He said they made great contributions to the liberalization of the Chinese nation and the world peace.
During the meeting, a number of scholars and senior soldiers both at home and from abroad reviewed the history of war against Japanese aggression 60 years ago and told of stories of how overseas Chinese and foreign citizens of Chinese descent supported the motherland in the fight against the Japanese aggression.
The meeting later issued the Hong Kong Manifesto on Peace, calling on peace-loving people all over the world to unite for maintaining the world peace, protecting the civilization of humanity and upholding the dignity of humanity.
Hong Kong Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung and Deputy Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affair of the People's Republic of China Xie Xiaoyan also attended the meeting.
