The United Front Work Department (UFWD) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee gave a banquet Friday in honor of World War II veterans or their family members.

Also invited were the participants of a workshop marking the 60th anniversary of China's victory of the resistance war against Japanese aggression and other memorial activities sponsored by the CPC Central Committee.

Addressing the banquet, Liu Yandong, head of the UFWD, said that Chinese people achieved the great victory in the resistance war against Japanese aggression through bloodshed struggles and joint efforts under the banner of the national united front proposed by the CPC and on the basis of the cooperation between the CPC and the Chinese Kuomintang Party.

The victory of the resistance war against Japanese aggression is the first time for the Chinese people to win over foreign invaders in its modern history, marking the end of a depression and the start of a rejuvenation for the Chinese Nation, said Liu, who is also a vice chairwoman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

She said that China's rapid economic and social progress over the past decades have made the Chinese all over the world feel proud and is the best memorial service for the martyrs and compatriots who died in the war.
