font size

China's leading newspaper, People's Daily, publishes an editorial on Saturday to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-fascism War.

The editorial recalls that the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-fascism War in the 1930s and 1940s were arduous struggles against cruel Fascist enemies fought by nations and peoples who loved peace and justice.

The Chinese War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was a war to save mankind and safeguard world peace as well as a war to safeguard the country, the editorial says, noting the Chinese people made huge sacrifices for victory in the World Anti-Fascism War and made historical contribution to the peace, development and justice for mankind.

The editorial says the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression was the first complete victory against foreign aggression in Chinese modern history. It not only safeguarded the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of China, but also enlightened the Chinese people, raised China's international status and boosted the Chinese revolution's progress, making it the historical turning point of the revival of the Chinese nation.

The editorial notes that China must improve its strength in economy, science and technology, national defense and solidarity, enhance the education of patriotism, continue pursuing an independent foreign policy of peace, and live together with the people in the world in amity based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence.

The editorial finally calls on the Chinese people to learn the experience from the anti-Japanese war and hold together to build a well-off society and realize the revival of the Chinese nation.
