Egypt will submit an initiative calling to hold a special general assembly meeting on anti-terror at the UN summit slated for Sept. 14-16 in New York, the Egyptian Mail reported Saturday.
The newspaper quoted a foreign ministry source as saying that Foreign Minister Ahmed Gheit has sent a letter to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, notifying him of Egypt's intention to propose the initiative on anti-terrorism.
The initiative suggests the special session discuss means of coordinating international efforts to combat terrorism as well as formulating an international work plan under the UN umbrella, said the source.
A draft of the work plan, which Egypt asked to be offered for discussions as an official document at the beginning of the session, urges to create a new UN mechanism to coordinate international efforts on anti-terror, define terror and enhance the governments' capabilities of fighting it.
