Portuguese communist leader meets Chinese party envoy

General Secretary of the PortugueseCommunist Party (PCP) Jeronimo de Sousa met Saturday with Fan Shijin, an envoy of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Fan, deputy director of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee, was in Lisbon to attend the celebrations of the "Avante" Festival, which started in 1976.

In the meeting, Fan briefed the Portuguese communist leader on China's current situation.

Sousa thanked the Chinese party for sending an envoy to attend the festival.

The Avante is a weekly newspaper published by the PCP from 1931.
