font size

erman carmaker Volkswagen (VW) plans to cut more than 10,000 jobs over the next few years, local report said Saturday.

The job cuts plan would cover six VW factories in West Germany, the factory in its Wolfsburg headquarters in particular, German weekly magazine Der Spiegel said.

VW Chief Executive Bernd Pischetsrieder expected that the job cuts would be carried out without actual layoffs under labor protection clauses of the current wage contract, Der Spiegel said.

The job cuts amounted to some 10 percent of VW's total workforce of 103,000 employees in Germany, Spiegel said.
