The 22nd Congress on the Law of the World held a ceremony to celebrate World Law Day in Beijing on Sunday.

The rule of law is the most reliable guarantee in safeguarding world peace and building a harmonious world, said Xiao Yang, president of the Supreme People's Court and president of China Organizing Committee of the 22nd Congress on the Law of the World, at the conference.

He said a new legal society, in which the strong face up to justice, the weak obtain protection, and peace can be continued, is the goal for the World Jurists Association and also the pursuit for legal professionals worldwide. Laws will play a more important role in the age of economic globalization than any other time, undertaking a more onerous task.

He said it is of significance to strengthen global communications between legal circles of various countries, improve legal progress and the development of the rule of law, maintain world peace, and build an international harmonious world. With an active attitude, China is paying attention to the development of laws in various countries. It will borrow and absorb the excellent results of human civilization and actively participate in making international social regularities, and engaging in legal cooperation.
