    Bush names Robert as chief justice

    17-year-old Chinese girl discovers a FMO

    17-year-old student Ding Shushan from Hangzhou High School tells the orbit of a fast-moving object (FMO) she discovered recently. Her discovery has been officially confirmed by the International Astronomical Union at 00:50, September 2, and was given a temporary code 2005QQ87. Ding thus became the world first female FMO finder, as well as the second FMO finder in China.

    Scaffolding collapses, 3 killed and 21 injured

    Rescuers and medical workers race to help the injured at a construction in Xidan area, Beijing in the night of September 5, 2005. At about 22:10 Monday night, a scaffolding of the construction in the bustling downtown area of Xidan collapsed suddenly, killing at least three workers and injuring 21. Investigators are surveying the site to determine the cause of the scaffolding collapse.

    Rampant production and cultivation of opium in Afghanistan

Although Afghanistan has been making efforts to reduce the production and cultivation of opium in recent years, the country's total production of opium exceeded 4,000 tons in 2004. It needs two decades to eliminate the opium poppy production in Afghanistan, a UN counter-narcotics chief said.
