European Union (EU) Council Secretary-General Javier Solana Madariaga left Beijing Monday evening for Shanghai.

Solana was here for the eighth China-EU summit, which was held on Monday. After a quick visit to China's financial hub Shanghai, Solana will return to Beijing on Tuesday.

At the annual China-EU summit, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Solana as well as British Prime Minister Tony Blair and EU Commission President Manuel Barroso.

While meeting with Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan on Monday, Solana said the EU hopes to go on deepening bilateral cooperation through the dialogue between the leaders of the two sides and forge a still closer relationship.
