Celebrating its 20th anniversary in Hong Kong on Monday, leading global restaurant chain KFC announced its expansion plan of doubling the size of operation within four years in the city.
KFC was introduced to Hong Kong in 1985 and was taken over in 1997 by Birdland (Hong Kong) Limited. It now has over 50 outlets in Hong Kong, serving over 3 million customers every month.
According to the CEO of Birdland (Hong Kong) Limited Yuka Yeung, KFC plans to increase the number of outlets in the city from 52 to 90 by 2009. And this expansion will involve an additional investment amounting to over 150 million HK dollars (about 19.2 million US dollars).
Yeung said Hong Kong is a popular tourist destination for travelers which has created an ideal platform to showcase the quality food and services.
It is deemed that success in Hong Kong has strongly influenced the development of KFC's business in neighboring markets, added Yeung.
Besides, KFC also officially launched the "KFC Real Care Foundation" with an initial donation of 1 million HK dollars (about 128,738 US dollars). The Foundation will support charitable organizations in Hong Kong by actively participating in their programs.
Based in Kentucky of US, KFC has more than 13,000 outlets, serving 8 million customers daily in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.
