The latest report from Taiwan shows that the overall foreign trade of China's Taiwan was not in good performance in the first half of this year.However, its exports to the mainland increased by 11.8 per cent with the trade surplus reaching 14.4 billion US dollars, the highest compared with the same period of previous years.

According to media reports in Taiwan, Taiwan's economic authority pointed out that the trade surplus as a whole exceeded 430 million US dollars for the first half of the year. The foreign trade would have been in the red in the first half of this year, had it not been for its high-volume exports to the mainland.

Statistics show Taiwan's exports to Europe declined by 1.7 per cent while its exports to the United States only increased by 3 per cent. But its exports to the Chinese mainland and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) enjoyed a two-digital growth, including nearly 24-billion USD of exports to the mainland. After deducting its imports from the mainland, its trade surplus hit 14.4 billion USD, an all-time high for the same period over the years.
