Mandelson: China a commercial rival, not foe
font size

The issue of Chinese textile exports is a global issue rather than China's only and should be solved through joints efforts of all countries around the world. This is the message from Peter Mandelson, trade commissioner of the European Union, at the plenary meeting of the China-EU summit.

He viewed the textile trade disputes as normal in trade. It is a challenge but the challenge is not the whole story. He urged the EU member countries to correct their erroneous understanding about China and regard China as a commercial rival instead of a foe. Bearing this mind, he believes, EU members will achieve a win-win and mutual beneficial situation in their cooperation on trade and any other area.
