Chinese experts to help landmine sweeping in Thailand
font size

A team of 10 Chinese experts left here by aircraft Tuesday for Thailand at the invitation of the Thai government to help with landmine clearance in that tropical country, according to military sources.

The experts come from a landmine clearance training center of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Yunnan Province, southwest China.

These experts were twice sent to Africa for humanitarian landmine sweeping programs, the sources said.

As part of an effort to enable themselves to accustom to Thailand's tropical weather, these Chinese servicemen conducted a three-month training before departure for their overseas mission.

They have even made some special apparatuses and equipment for use in clearing landmines in Thailand, the sources said.
