The second China Zhijiang International Peace Culture Festival opened Tuesday in Zhijiang County, central China's Hunan Province, to mark the 60th anniversary of China's victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the world's victory against Fascism.
Over 100 World War II veterans, diplomats, officials and foreign guests from over 10 countries including the United States, Russia, Britain, France and Germany, along with Chinese war witnesses and experts, participated in a grand opening ceremony.
Delegates signed a peace declaration, expressing their wish to prevent war and maintain eternal peace in the world.
During World War II, Zhijiang airport hosted US General Claire Lee Chennault's Flying Tigers and Sino-US air force. It was also the surrender venue of Japanese invaders on Aug. 21, 1945.
The two-day peace festival is sponsored by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Hunan Provincial Government and China National Commission for UNESCO.
