Hong Kong retail sales up in July
font size

The total retail sales value of Hong Kong in July was 17.4 billion Hong Kong dollars, up 7 percent over a year earlier, the Census & Statistics Department of Hong Kong said Tuesday.

After netting out the effect of price changes over the same period, the overall volume of retail sales rose 5.6 percent.

The department said the overall volume of retail sales continued to grow solidly in July, indicating consumer demand stayed firm amidst the increasingly entrenched economic recovery.

It expected that the opening of the Hong Kong Disneyland will lift consumer sentiment and stimulate spending in the coming months.
