Condom demand rises in Uganda
font size

Uganda's Ministry of Health has increased annual condom importation from 80 million to 120 million to meet the increasing demand in the east African country.

"Due to a sharp increase in condom use, annual demand has risen from 80 million to 120 million condoms. We shall import 120 million condoms annually," Minister of State for Health Mike Mukula was quoted Tuesday by local media as saying.

He said the ministry is distributing 20 million emergency condoms following a sharp increase in the use of condoms.

To alleviate the recent condom shortage in the country, the ministry last week imported 20 million emergency condoms procured with the support of donor counties.

"These condoms will be sufficient for three to four months," said an AIDS control official here.
