Japan posted a record 847.77 billion US dollars in foreign exchange reserves at the end of August, up 8. 39 billion dollars from the month before, the Finance Ministry said Wednesday.
The tally topped the previous record high of 844.54 billion dollars in December, making Japan the largest holder of foreign reserves of any country or territory for the 69th straight month, the ministry said, citing the latest comparable data.
The increase for the reporting month stemmed from interest income and valuation gains on holdings of US Treasuries and other foreign securities, and the rising value of euro-denominated assets.
