Indonesia to offer eight power plant projects for private sector

To boost capacity of electricity supply, the Indonesian government will put eight power plant projects on offer for the private sector, a senior official said in Jakarta Wednesday.

"The eight power generator projects are estimated to cost 4.67 billion US dollars or 46 trillion rupiah," Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro told a press conference.

The projects will be a 600-MW power plant in Cirebon worth 500 million dollars, 500-MW power plant in Pasuruan worth 500 million dollars, 1,200-MW power plant in Central Java worth 1.2 billion dollars, the Paiton 3 and the Paiton 4 power plant of 400 MW each worth 800 million dollars, 200-MW power plant in Bali worth 200 million dollars, 200-MW power plant in North Sumatra worth 200 million dollars, 50-MW power plant in South Sulawesi worth 50 million dollars and 120-MW power plant in East Kalimantan worth 120 million dollars.

"Most of them will be coal-fired power plants. We hope the projects will commence within the next five to seven years," Purnomo said.
