The United Nation Mission (UNMISS) in Sudan on Wednesday called for holding the next round of peace talks between the Sudanese government and Darfur rebels on Sept. 15 as scheduled.
UNMISS spokeswoman Radia Achouri told reporters that the UNMISS exerted intensive efforts by conducting meetings with all concerned sides to hold the peace talks on time.
"Despite a cloudy picture on the fixed date, the African Union (AU) has not changed the time yet," said Achouri, reaffirming the UN's support to the AU's efforts to solve the Darfur conflict.
The Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), one of two main rebel groups in Darfur, on Tuesday demanded that the next round of the Abuja peace talks be adjourned.
The rebel movement issued a statement, saying it will not participate in the talks before holding its conference.
The SLM leaderships are determined to arrange the conference in Darfur to discuss the situation there and a strategy for the future, but they did not specify any date for the gathering.
But the Sudanese government rejected any attempt to delay the peace talks.
